ANTONI TÀPIES

Antoni Tápies was born in Barcelona. He began to draw and paint

when he had to spend a long time in bed because of an illness when he was 18.

He learned how to draw and paint on her own, without the help of a teacher.

In his paintings he uses materials which are not commonly used in the traditional painting such as sand, mud, straw... he gives a great importance to the material. They are abstract works, they don´t represent the reality.

What are we going to do?

We  are going to do the following:

. Cut out 15 objects from a newspaper or magazine.

. They have to be from a similar size but different shape and colour.

. Put them on a table and look at them carefully. How can I join these objects?

. Choose seven out of the fifteen objects and place them in the way you like to make a composition.

. Glue the composition on a piece of paper

JUAN MUÑOZ

Juan Muñoz was a Spanish sculptor who liked to create very misterious figures.

He wasn´t interested in the person , he only wanted to show feelings.

EXAMPLES of his sculptures:

This is the purpose of our work for this week: to make faces expressing different emotions : happy, sad, angry, tired, surprised...

 HOW TO DO IT?

1. You can choose 6 examples below : eyes, eyebrows and mouth. It´s very important to pay attention to mouth (boca) and eyebrows (cejas) to get the feeling we want to achieve

2. You have to draw the same face 6 times, like in the example: same ears, same hair, same clothes. You only have to change the mouth, eyes and eyebrows (the ones thay you have chosen in point number1)

     RENÉ MAGRITTE

This artist was born in Belgium and he became very famous

by painting odd( extrañas) images in his works by mixing and

overlaping ( sobreponiendo) characters, objects or landscapes.

His paintings are misterious and not easy to understand,                              Self-portrait

they look like images coming from a dream or a fantastic story.

Magritte painted men with hats, apples, combs, pigeons, skies with white clouds or landscapes with lush vegetation ( vegetación frondosa).

He usually mixed two things with nothing in common.

Le Fils De L'Home                                  A friend of order                                   Man in a bowler hat                                 La belle societe

For example, we can title this painting : The man with million friends".

 How to do it:

 1. We draw the outline ( silueta) of the man with a pencil.

 2. We cover the background( fondo) outside the outline with black watercolor.

 3. Finally, we paint the man.

We can do a painting with another objects: our favourite fruit or animal, our bike, a musical instrument pr  whatever you want.

PICASSO

Pablo Picasso was a Spanish painter, sculptor and printmaker,

considered one of the greatest artists of the 20th century

He was famous for the art movement known as Cubism

                                                                   CUBISM

In Cubism paintings, objects are broken apart and reassembled

in an abstract form, highlighting their composite geometric

shapes and depicting them from multiple points in order to

create collage-like effects                                                                                Guernica, 1937

ACTIVITY

This week we are going to create a Cubism self-portrait.

What do we need?

Old magazines. Scissors. Glue. Crayons. Pencil                                                                   Mediterranean landscape

How can we do it?

1. You can cut out photos of different people and cut out their eyes, noses, mouths..

2. You can mix different eyes, noses, mouths of different people to create  faces

3. Then, you glue these parts of the face on a paper

4. Finally, you can decorate a background. You can use a pencil to add some more detail !!!!!
